DEVIALET x HANOIA THE SYMPHONY OF CRAFTSMANSHIP
Devialet introduces the Devialet Phantom Ultimate 108 dB x Hanoia — the first limited-edition collaboration with Hanoia, celebrating the 20th anniversary of Tam Son. This partnership reinterprets Devialet’s flagship speaker through the lens of lacquer artistry, drawing inspiration from the iconic silhouette of the Phantom and cultural elements from both France and Vietnam.

Aiming to bridge the spirit of two brands — representing French and Vietnamese cultures — Hanoia’s design team thoughtfully conveyed this message through materials, colors, motifs, patterns, and imagery. Their philosophy led them to select distinctive cultural symbols: the Vietnamese concept of “sơn son thếp vàng” (crimson lacquer and gold-leaf gilding), geometric motifs found in traditional cement tiles and Hanoia’s logo, the spherical form echoing the Phantom’s shape, and other design elements drawn from French fashion and heritage.
From this shared concept, Hanoia developed two versions, each with its own color palette and personality.
The Light Pearl Edition emphasizes gold leaf techniques to evoke luxury and refinement.
The Deep Forest Edition bursts with vibrant colors, expressing the dynamic spirit of a tech-forward product.

In the Light Pearl edition, the highlight lies in the fusion of gold leaf and lacquer. Four types of gold leaf, each with a distinct hue, are used to create a harmonious visual composition — a shimmering, elegant mosaic that captivates the eye.
The Deep Forest Edition features blue stripes reminiscent of sailor uniforms and the French tricolor — blue, white, and red — reimagined in lacquer as a tribute to Devialet’s origins. Interwoven with these French symbols are Hanoia’s signature lacquer techniques, subtly reinforcing the message of this multicultural collaboration: a blend of cultures, refined artistry, and masterful craftsmanship.

However, the true challenge lay in the production process. The speaker’s stainless steel surface is smooth and nearly impossible to decorate. To proceed, artisans had to carefully roughen the surface — reducing slipperiness while preserving the necessary smoothness for subsequent steps. The speaker’s structure is composed of small spherical segments, each divided into multiple zones requiring distinct decorative techniques. The working area for artisans was extremely limited. Hanoia’s skilled craftsmen had to lacquer each tiny section individually, precisely masking adjacent areas to prevent overlap — adding hours to the production timeline.

For the Light Pearl edition, the greatest challenge was adhesion. Without meticulous surface treatment, the gold leaf could easily peel off. Each decorative zone was just a few millimeters wide, while the gold leaf sheets measured 9x9 cm — requiring precise alignment and coverage. Artisans also had to carefully balance the tones of different gold leaves within each sphere to maintain overall harmony. Beyond manual dexterity, scientific precision was essential: each area had to be masked and shielded to avoid glue and gold dust contamination. Removing the tape demanded slow, delicate movements — a single misstep could ruin the adhesion.
In the Deep Forest Edition, the surface was first roughened and then layered with silver leaf to create a metallic base. Decorating this base required extreme precision, as the tiny surface areas demanded a combination of multiple lacquer techniques. Even the smallest error could compromise the entire process. Finally, the fine white outlines around the spheres and striped motifs were painted entirely by hand — each brushstroke a test of patience, skill, and even breath control.

Driven by a deep passion for lacquer and a relentless pursuit of excellence, Hanoia proudly brings a vibrant, high-end universe to modern living spaces. What sets Hanoia apart is its curated material library, exceptional technical expertise, and a fully responsible production process carried out entirely in Vietnam to international standards — all guided by a refined artistic eye and meticulous attention to detail. These elements define the brand’s identity and elevate the value of every creation
“If design is the signature of each artist, then lacquer is the collective result of countless meticulous steps and the dedication of our artisans,”
The brand affirms.
This collaboration marks the beginning of a promising relationship between Devialet and Hanoia, celebrating the harmony between aesthetic vision and masterful craftsmanship — where tradition and technology intertwine.
