HANOIA x COMAY: WEAVE A LACQUERED WORLD

Two worlds. Two materials. Two design languages. And hundreds of hours of exquisite craftsmanship.

These differences now blend to create an impressive collection being launched for the very first time. Bound by a shared aesthetic vision and a dedication to harmonizing tradition with modernity, the Hanoia x Comay collection pays tribute to Vietnam’s artisanal heritage and feminine grace through a sophisticated perspective.

Within the meticulous artistry of Comay’s weaving, Hanoia discovers a resonant echo of its own lacquer craft—a discipline where devotion and patience converge to shape enduring beauty. The handwoven water hyacinth bags, adorned with radiant lacquer details, emerge as signature creations of this collaboration. With this partnership, Hanoia opens a new chapter in its journey of celebrating Vietnamese craftsmanship, embracing not only lacquer but the broader mosaic of traditional skills that embody Asian cultural legacy.

Calla

Calla comes in a refined, compact form, combining a hand-woven body with gradient lacquer buckles.

Inspired by the pure beauty of the Calla Lily, a symbol of elegance, the Calla bag is designed with a soft and feminine silhouette. This small bag is hand-woven from dried water hyacinth fibers, applying the rice-nut weaving technique to create seamless, continuous, and flexible joints.

Balancing functionality and aesthetics, Calla integrates seamlessly into various looks

The Calla bag is completed with a pair of lacquer buckles that subtly gradient-blend in the same tone as the flap and leather strap, creating harmony in the overall design.

Tanya

The summer breeze radiates through the Tanya design, as the unique spherical bag evokes the dazzling sun, with its curved handle reaching out like sunbeams

Tanya combines rice–nut and close–flat weaving techniques to achieve its soft, rounded form

To achieve its flexible shape, the Tanya bag is hand-woven by combining two techniques: close-flat and rice-nut weaving. Every strand of water hyacinth fiber is skillfully interwoven, creating a full, soft, and rounded curve. The gradient-lacquered buckle detail on the strap contributes to Tanya's distinctive character.

Clematis

Inspired by the resilient nature of the Clematis, the namesake bag employs water hyacinth thread to create a form that distinguishes it from conventional designs.

The diagonal-cut opening is Clematis’s distinctive highlight

The unique feature is the subtly executed diagonal cut of the opening, combined with the rice-nut weaving technique to create a silhouette that is both sturdy and flexible. Across the horizontal leather flap, a gradient-lacquered clasp provides a refined focal point, affirming Clematis's singular creative signature.

Emilia

The Emilia bag evokes a sense of rusticity yet possesses distinctive character, thanks to its fine handcrafted elements.

The lacquered handle is adorned with silver leaf tinted in gold

The body of the bag is hand-woven from water hyacinth threads using the rice-nut weaving technique, with each woven joint made tight and continuous to define its shape. The leather flap detail acts as a soft focal point, bringing a subtle balance to the design. Completing the look is a prominent lacquered handle, featuring a silver-leaf tinted in gold effect that adds a luxurious accent to Emilia.

Carmy

The Carmy bag crafted from dried water hyacinth, a material closely linked to Vietnam’s riverine culture, Carmy embodies the subtle spirit of the natural world.

Each dried water hyacinth strand is tightly woven to create a sturdy yet supple form

This artisanal bag integrates two weaving methods: rice-nut and close hexagon. Significantly, the rice-nut weave requires intense precision, as the thread must be carefully split into thin strands to deliver the expected result. The symmetrical form of the bag, complemented by lacquered handles finished with a gold-dyed silver leaf application, ensures a refined aesthetic.
