Usage Instruction

Each of our products is made with different components that require different types of maintenance. Please find the instruction for each component listed below.

  1. Lacquerware
  • Avoid sharp or hard objects to come in contact with the product to prevent surface scratching.
  • Avoid rapid fluctuations in temperature and humidity.
  • Avoid high humidity environments (e.g. bathrooms).
  • Avoid highly acidic cleaning agents.
  • Do not store or display the product at temperature above 70°C (158°F).
  • Do not put into the

  1. Brass
  • All brass parts used in Hanoia products have a protective layer, thus do not use metal polish or highly acidic cleaning agents to avoid damaging the protected surface.
  • Avoid soaking in water. Clean with a soft cloth and warm water.
  • Avoid sharp objects and harsh surfaces in order not to damage the protective layer.
  • Use a dry, soft cloth to polish the product after cleaning.
  • Use small, soft brushes to clean inside the engraved brass parts.
  1. Bamboo or Rattan
  • Display and store in a dry, airy environment.
  • Avoid sharp or hard objects to come in contact with the product to prevent scratching and breaking.
  • Avoid contacting with flammable materials.
  • Avoid high humidity environments (e.g. bathrooms).
  • Avoid extreme fluctuations in temperature and humidity.
  • Do not put into the microwave oven or the
  • Wipe the product with a dry, soft cloth or brush.
  1. Silver
  • Avoid sharp or hard objects to come in contact with the product to prevent surface scratching.
  • Use silver polish to keep the product clean and tarnish-free. Only polish the silver surface and avoid lacquered parts if there is any.
  • Use up-and-down motion while cleaning.
  1. Horn
  • Horn is a natural material that tends to expand or contract easily due to temperature changing. Horn products should be stored and used in a moderate, stable temperature. Avoid extreme temperature fluctuations or environments that are too dry.
  • Avoid soaking in water or strong cleaning agents. Clean with a damp, soft cloth.
  • Dry product immediately after cleaning.
  • Do not put into the
  • Avoid harsh bending.
  • In a dry environment, use a light layer of Vaseline to keep the material strong and avoid dryness.
  1. Lacquered surface
  • Avoid direct contact with sunlight as UV rays can damage and age the lacquered surface.
  • Avoid sharp or hard objects to come in contact with the product to prevent scratching.
  • Avoid rapid fluctuations in temperature and humidity.
  • Avoid high humidity environments (e.g. bathrooms).
  • Avoid highly acidic cleaning agents and hot/cold water.
  • Do not store or display the product at temperature above 70°C (158°F).
  • Use tablecloths, placemats and coasters when placing hard objects onto the surface. Avoid gliding hard objects across the surface to prevent scratching.
  • To clean:
    • Vacuum the surface of the products every 1-2 weeks. Do not let the tip of the vacuum cleaner come into contact with the lacquered surface to prevent scratching.
    • Wipe with a dry, soft cloth.
  1. Wood and Veneer
  • Avoid direct contact with sunlight.
  • Avoid rapid fluctuations in temperature and humidity.
  • Keep the product away from hot air vents or air-conditioning vents. Keep away from heat sources that cause explosion.
  • Avoid liquids absorbing into the product or placing the product in high humidity environments as woods (including natural, industrial, veneer, etc.) generally have poor water resistance.
  • Avoid sharp or hard objects to come in contact with the product to prevent scratching.
  • Do not place hot objects (e.g. heated pans, baking trays, etc.) directly onto the wood surface.
  • Use a protective mat when writing with a ballpoint pen on the surface of the furniture.
  • To clean:
    • Cleaning regularly to maintain the beauty of the product.
    • Use a soft cotton cloth, moistened by water or wood polish, depends on the type of wood being used. Do not use dry cloth as it can damage the finishing. Use a light hand and switch up the side of cloth in use regularly.
  1. Leather
  • Avoid direct contact with sunlight and heat sources.
  • Do not use heat to dry leather.
  • Avoid direct contact with water or moisture.
  • Avoid sharp objects.
  • To clean:
    • Clean the leather surface weekly with clean and slightly damp cloth.
    • Use dry cloth or weak cleaning agents to clean grease on leather. Do not use water.
    • To clean a stain on the leather surface: Use a clean and damp piece of foam to dip into a weak cleaning agent. Test on a small patch of leather that is not easily visible to check if there is any undesirable effect on the surface. Place the product in airy environment to dry after cleaning, do not use direct heat such as hair dryer to dry the leather surface.
    • Vacuum using soft vacuum cleaner brush to prevent scratching.
  1. Fabric
  • Avoid direct contact with sunlight and heat sources.
  • Avoid sharp objects.
  • Quickly clean the fabric in case there is a stain.
  • Do not put newspaper/magazines on the fabric surface as the ink from these papers can transfer to the fabric.
  • To clean:
    • Vacuum weekly using vacuum cleaner brush head is highly recommended.
    • For fabrics that can be removed to clean such as cushion cover, dry-wash or wash by hand with soap without bleach.
  1. Stone
  • Do not place hot objects (heated pans, baking trays, etc.) directly onto the stone surface to avoid cracking.
  • If any liquid is spilled on the stone surface, clean right away with a cloth.
  • Clean the surface regularly to avoid the natural staining of the stone.
  • To clean
    • Use a soft clean cloth.
    • To clean more thoroughly, use a cleaning agent with neutral pH level as acidic or alkaline agents can damage stone surface.
  1. Brass
  • Avoid liquids and humidity.
  • Avoid sharp objects and harsh surfaces to in order not to damage the protective layer.
  • To clean
    • First clean with a damp cloth, then dry with a dry cloth.
    • Use water or cleaning agent with a neutral pH.
  1. Glass
  • Do not place heavy objects onto the glass surface
  • To clean:
    • Use glass cleaner to clean.
  1. Metal accessories (hinges, rays, trays, rails, etc.)
  • Keep the accessories dry.
  • Do not exceed the recommended load of the accessories.
  • Maintain the accessories every 3 – 6 weeks to extend the product life.
  1. Lacquer Silk:
  • Lacquer silk products should be washed to ensure all the sap is taken out before being used.
  • Hand wash is strongly recommended.
  • Wash with cold water only.
  • Do not steam wash.
  • Iron with low temperature while the fabric is moist.
  1. Silk:
  • Wash with shampoo or weak lemon juice.
  • Avoid highly acidic washing agent.
  • Wash with cold water only.
  • Avoid soaking.
  • Vertical-rinse in the last step without squeezing.
  • Dry washing is recommended.
  • Avoid hanging in direct sunlight.
  • Iron with a low temperature while the fabric is moist.
  1. Dzó paper
  • Display and store the product in a dry, airy environment.
  • Avoid direct sunlight and high temperature.
  • Do not store the product in high humidity environment, such as bathroom.
